I am known for my fish and obsession with nature in general. I don't think being known for having a passion for something odd is a bad thing, tank onThis is turning into a fantastic thread.
I love the fact that our hobby, although precious to each and every one of us, is a very niche hobby and we're a rare breed. If ever i'm out socialising or at work and I mention my hobby, eyes roll and I get the "here he goes again type look". Here we can all share our thoughts, as ambitious as they may be (fishhead0103666 ) and know that like minded people will listen intently.
Great thread. Keep 'em coming.
That sounds really cool. I've seen some oddball clowns and they can really be quite awesome looking.Right now I'm focusing on growing out my clown loaches in my 125g and finding really oddball ones.
Eventually I'd like to set them up in a larger tank, but they have a few years of growing left. A 7'L by 30"W by 24"H would be the biggest I can fit through the door of my office aka fish room and that's the future plan.
I have a planted 75g that I really enjoy. I seem to be quite drawn to small fish in a "larger" planted tank. I believe the reason is because you have a few different species interacting with themselves and the environment through the nooks and crannies in the tank. There's always something interesting going on somewhere, especially if you keep a few "shy" fish, they are a bonus when you see them. I can see making a shy guys tank in the future.
Realistically the only additions I see in the near future, is maybe a few smaller tanks to keep either blue or yellow neocaridina shrimp or a nano community with something like CPD's, Khulis, or dwarf chain loaches .
But the biggest thing with where this takes me is I really don't want to be a slave to water changes.
Sounds awesome to me. Zebra Plecos are definitely cool. And I've always loved ponds.I’m not sure where the hobby is taking me but it seems like people are posting their goals...so hers mine
I’d like to purchase a house with a basement and have the basement made into my fish room where I would like to have maybe 2 large tanks180-230g range. I’d like to build them a sum and plumb it myself. Maybe looking into automated water changes so there would be less maintenance water change wise.
I’d like to set up some breeding racks (all plumbed together) and I’d like to breed zebra plecos and maybe three beacon plecos. I’d like to have my own strain of guppies.
Id also like to have a decent sized pond as well.
I realize I may not achieve all of these things but I should be able to accomplish a couple of things on my list.
Very cool, I'm glad MFk has inspired you.For me I'm slowly changing from a classic mix and match general aquarium keeper to someone who's more interested in natural/biotope aquariums. When I finally get my tanks set up and running again they will look and be stocked very differently to how I have done it in the past. This site and also more empathy to animals and their needs have been a huge influence on this new way of thinking.
Not as grand or ambitious as some people on here but it's the genuine change In attitude I have now that will be the biggest change on how I now approach things.
Flagtails are cool as are Loaches and Plecos. This is why I created this thread it reminds me of the many fish I wanted to get but have forgotten and hopefully does the same or inspires others to explore fish or things they may have not otherwise. For instance I forgot how much I'd like to get a Yasuhikotakia modesta Blue/Red Tail Botia which is a great looking loach especially when they're full grown. My modest plans compared to some are to upgrade to a 5 or 6ft tank. Adding a flag tail, loaches and fancy plecos to the current stock. Plus setup a new tank for the kids, probably just a guppy breeder tank.
Long term I'd love snakeheads again, but the wife is definately not keen on that nor any of the above really!
Very cool. Good luck with your breeding project and hopefully self sustaining hobby. After years of keeping betta's (mainly space issues) I was finally able to move into my dream fish pleco's!
A mislabeled sailfin has lead me down the path of larger and larger tanks.
A childhood friend of my fiancee ended up taking over the aquatics department of the lfs and quickly became the face of the local chain. We are able to wrok with him directly and have begun breeding for local demand with the goal of a self sustaining hobby. Currently shipping in breeding angelfish pairs while bristlenose grow out. Hoping to have sell-able stock of angels this fall and bristles laying by then.
Crazy how a .5 gal can turn into 10 operational tanks with a couple spares laying around at any given time.
Both Brichardi and Julies are awesome fish. Though I will say I favor Brichardi more. Hope to see you posting up your colony in the future regardless of the species you choose.I figured out what I'm gonna do with my 20 tall, either gonna get a colony of kiku blue face brichardi or marlieri julies going
as much as that decision looks watered down on here, this is gonna be a pretty big one, the immortal colony of fish I'll be taking care of for the rest of my life...
