Wheres the threads about the Polypterpus. Bichir.Bichir??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Since we are at the topic of poly. bichir bichir, can i ask how we distinguished between a Lap and B.bichir?

I was told 1 of the way is to count the number of top finlets. 14-16finlets is a B.bichir, anything less is a lap. True?

The other is(what king-el showed) the head shape. However to a novice keeper, they are very difficult to tell as they both look almost the same. Can anyone, with B. bichir and Lap(nigeria or guinea variant), care to share how to tell them apart?

Thanks

Yep 100% Polypterus bichir lapradei "Nigeria"
Nice one too! At a bare bottom, the base color and contrast of the patterns is amazing! Lap are the hardiest bichir to bring out there color and your lap stand out from all the laps that I've seen.

I have a koliba too and koliba's pattern are more mottled racing stripes.
Here is my Koliba. This just gives me an idea that this is a new species. Just waiting for a biologist to describe this one to have a proper latin name so the koliba would have it's own name.
