Funny you ask... I just thought the answer to my tank last night then I read the Q right now...
In my tank out of all 10 Polys I have, my Weeksii is the best! He is not the biggest swimmer but id say 2-3 sec after tossing in any food, the Weeksii is on the prawl and 9/10 times he gets to the food first with my Endli/Ansorgiis being the last to eat
i dont think anyone can say what is the best hunter. its just like saying what fish swims the best. i think its all down to what there enviorement and what suits them for hunting
I agree. Not all the same species of bichir acts the same. Each have their own abilities to each individual. Environment, size of bichir, size of prey and speed of prey plays an important role.
Their are so many questions that doesn't really have an answer, such as:
-Which is the most active bichir?
-Which is the most aggressive bichir?
-Which is the laziest bichir?
-Which is the fastest growing bichir?
All this questions varied on individual bichirs and how the owner view his/her bichirs.
From my personal tank of 2x Delhezi, 1x Endli and 1x Ornate, I would say the Ornate is the dominant hunter and the chief source of competition among getting to the food and keeping the others from it.
Endlis in my opinion but I've only kept like 2 species of polys: senegalus and endlis.
I see my bigger endli catch my smaller one like nothing...opens up his big mouth and the suction he creates drags the little ones in!
Good thing he is the only bichir I have now as he hates others....
