Which canister filter??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Stay away from Marineland. The trick up their sleeve is to get customers to purchase their replacement filters often... just another costly expense on top of everything else. Might as well just pay Marineland a monthly fee to use their products. Smart from a business aspect, dumb from a consumers.

I say stick to Eheim or other canisters with reusable media. It'll save you a lot of $$$ in the long run.

If you've decided it has to be either Marineland or Fluval (such as myself whose stuck on either Eheim or Rena for my next aquarium)... I will strongly suggest staying away from Marineland and go with the fluval brand. They have a much stronger reputation for quality.

yeah bud dont get a marineland...if you can look at my old post I have a review on it, the xp3, and the 405...id obviously go with eheim if money is no option but for sure get xp3 or 405 before the marineland..i have xp3s xp4s and 405s with no problems all good filters but rena has a slight edge IMO

Fluvals are Great, Renas are easier to maintain

Alright lol. It looks like marineland is out. I heard fluval is a good one but I wanted to make sure. But with all canister filters, there's trays for your mechanical, chemical and biological filtration...Is fluvals's foam pads and carbon and bio-balls,etc just better or what? Can I reuse the foam pads in the fluval over and over again?

Eheim all the way. They don't have trays like you're asking about- you pour different media in and separate them with layers of floss. Extremely variable, and easy to clean- regular backflushing does most of the work for you. I backflushed every few months, and otherwise went 10 months without cleaning mine, and it took me about 15 minutes to do when I did.
