I am looking at slowly changing my 310g to add CA/SA cichlids. My current stock is:
Datnoid Pulcher +- 15"
Ornate bichir +- 16"
Pim catfish +- 12"
Clown knifefish +- 16"
Dimidiochromis compressiceps +- 6"
Jaguar cichlid +- 5"

I am looking at adding colorful CA cichlids. Hopefully if I add enough of them the aggression will be diluted amongst them. I am looking at adding some of the below mentioned cichlids and would like to you what you guys think about how the mix will work or which would work better.

As for Tank decor, it will be slate on the bottom of the tank with one piece of driftwood somewhere near the centre. Filtration is not a problem and I can handle a big bioload.

Possibles and Probables
Aequidens rivulatus-green terror
Oscar
nandopsis salvini-Salvin's cichlid
Thorichthys meeki-Firemouth
Herichthys cyanoguttatus-texas cichlid (i fI can find a decent priced Super red I would prefer it.)
Sajica cichlids
Electric Blue Jack Dempsey
Eventually a Thai Silk Flowerhorn
Vieja argentinea
Vieja synspila-redhead cichlid
Cichlasoma maculicauda-blackbelt cichlid
Amphilophus Lyonsi
Vieja Hartwegi

I am looking at one of each so there is no chance for spawning. Would love imput from those with FIRST HAND EXPERIENCE. Nothing taken from other websites as I have been reading a lot and want opinions from owners.

Thanks

I don't mind giving up the Electric Blue dempsey as the Thai silk will eventually bring the blue I am looking for to the tank. Will the Vieja argentinea not bee too agressive or is the tank large enough? The dat I have is a bit of a pansy.

depends on the argentea, most will be quite aggressive but sometimes you get lucky and since you wont really have any territories for them to stake out and your tank is quite large you may be alright, mine is over 6in and so far is fairly mild (knock on wood) i have had him with angels and cichlid juvies as small as 1in and he hasnt messed with them, even when i had him with more aggressive cichlids he was definitely high in the rankings and nobody messed with him but as long as nobody started anything with him he just minds his own business, of course this could change as he gets bigger but im hoping that since he is already this big that he stays this way (fingers crossed, lol)

That sounds tempting but I am willing to forgo the argentea for more colorful cichlids less likely to throw my tank into disarray.

I would love to see a picture of yours though Sarah88.

I am looking at keeping them all male. I do NOT want breeding from anything. How will this affect the choices?

Like chrisplosion said, different species doesn't mean no breeding. And if you go with all males you will have to reduce the stock list. I wouldn't worry about breeding because most if not all of the fry will eventually be eaten.
