My Phenochilus Tanzania grows sooo slow. I got him almost a year ago at 2.5" and he only grew 0.5" since. Water condition is great. I have bunch of other haps n peacocks that grow 2" in less time.

I've noticed that water changes do help. I dont change mine that often so they do grow slower. The competition may also have something to do with it. I do have some grow fast and some slow. Maybe runt? That does seem really really slow though for a cichlid however. I'll be interested to see other posts.

Black calvus. bought at 1.5", is now nearly 3" and that's supposed to be pretty awesome growth in about 10 months

Same situation lol except bought mine a little under an inch and Is now 2" after 7 months. I load mine with food and do regular WC's but to no avail... Still one of my favorite fish

He might not be getting food
Mine grow 4" a year
watch him eat and see?

Interesting. I usually feed at one corner n he's a hyper guy that loves to swim up n down repeatedly at another corner. I'll pay close attention to see how much he eats. Thx

I had a smokey angelfish for about a year and it hardly grew at all, from experience the more robust angels like marbles grow faster and bigger than the more fragile ones (pearlscale, gold, silver ect)

Something must be wrong with your experience then. Your water quality or feeding must have been way off because I've owned each "slow growing" strain of angels you mentioned and they all grew very fast at an equal rate
