No, that is his true color. Of course, lightning is helping, but it is the most beautiful dovii I ever seen. He is from Nicaragua

The bluest Parachromis dovii are definitively coming from Nicaragua. Here’s mine

Thats a great looking Nic Branch.

Here is flowerpowers pair (from Rio Heredia).

After having had both Nics and CR's, Im going to have to say that this one trumps any blue that Ive ever seen in any Nic...and might be the best looking male Ive ever seen color-wise.

I agree with you VRWC! Flowerpowers male dovii is the best I've seen...colorwise! I have some of his babies and growing them out...hopefully they turn out like him.

I think we all need to remember that mood and lighting angle can make a huge difference in a Dovii's color not to mention a breeding pair showing off for each other. If I'm not mistaking both of those pics are breeding pairs. My Dovii can look a little dull one minute and the next be popping with blues in the fins and a deep reddish sheen on his sides. I think both variants look great. Defiantly will grow out a male nic one day.

Gotta agree Nic's.

My Dovii when shy, loses almost ALL his color, when he's happy... he looks like this.

Moncho. The Costa Rican Dovii. (He was a little less than 4" when this was taken, he's pretty close to five now.)
