  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
another thing i noticed the 2 tiretrack has different patterns

1 has pattern all over the body and much darker -- M.favus?
the other 1 has pattern only on the top half body lighter brown -- M.armatus?

yes sir agreed

i will donate one of the tiretrack eels once they reach 12inches
i bought 2 eels because they are very hard to find here.... almost Rare!
i was skeptical of their survial rate in a african cichlids tank therefore i got 2 of them.
now they are still small at 5inches and happily feeding on frozen bloodworms in a bottle.

the yellow lab cichlid is aggressive towards the eels, i hope the tiretrack grows fast.. thanks!

They don't grow particularly quickly, ime. I got mine at 5" over 2.5 years ago, and it has only grown to about 19" since then. You will need to get rid of both of yours eventually, though.

i was trying something new today

i put in some hikari sinking goldfish pallets into a bottle.

to my big surprise! the small tire tracks eels start gobbling them up!:D

this is cool

The lighter patteern is likely due to stress. one of my M dayi is def "lighter" then the other and is the subordinate fish in the tank. Glad they are eating pellets for you. with 50% WCs a week or so my armatus hit 12" in 1 1/2yrs. and I've seen them hit bigger in that time when fed well and lots of water changes being done. frozen bloodworms alone is a very poor diet for spineys so the pellets will increase their growth ( I would suggest a meatier based pellet such as massivore, or a cichlid pellet with more protein. Goldfish pellets are pretty much plant protein), at that size live black worms or nightcrawlers chopped up finely would also be good foods. I've had limited success with tilapia and other fish, and alot fo people feed prawns. as varied a diet as you can get them to take will give you the best results. BTW.. once my TT hit 12" he didn't hesitate to eat smaller fish. your smallest africans might start dissapearing. Also I would suggest wormign them for IP's as some point as IP's and spineys are pretty common.

Favrus pattern wraps arond it's belly where aramatus doesn't... Aram's belly is usually a tannish color ( darker in an overall darker fish and lighter in a overall lighter fish)

ya i was worried about my smaller africans cichilds

the smallest i have right now is a 3 inch N.bichardi
the rest of them are 4-5 inches

the max size for them will be around 4-6 inches

will the tire track eel eat 4-6 inches cichlids?

thanks
