Which Eheim

I have a 30 gallon tank that I want to put a canister filter on. I already know that I want an Eheim, but which should I get. The Ecco or the Classic?
I really don't know the difference so maybe someone could help me out. Thanks!
 
the largest ecco is about 600lph, also its canister is smaller than the equivalent classic one. i would go classic because it intakes the water at the bottom of the canister not at the top like ecco, which eliminates bypass, also canister is larger so is better for biological filtration. i would buy double shut off taps for the classic to facilitate water changes and to restart easily.

the ecco is easier to use and prime for sure and may be cheaper to buy... but i would go classic anyday.

I strongly disagree with that. The pro 2 series are very easy to use, and are very good filters. They don't require any prior knowledge either.

A list of Eheim filters, from best to worst, in my opinion:

-Classic huge filter (2262)
-Pro 3e (2078, 2076)
-Pro 3 (2080, 2180)
-Pro 2 (2026, 2028, 2126, 2128)
-Classic (2211, 2213, 2215, 2217, 2250, 2260)
-Wet/dry (2227, 2229)
-Pro 1 (2226, 2228)
-Ecco (2231, 2232, 2233, 2234, 2235, 2236)

This is based on a combination of ease of use, setup, running power.

I've found my Eheim quick release somewhat easy to break if not careful. Another thing is I broke my impellar shaft before I could even set it up. The shaft was made of ceramic material. Other than these two incidents I think the 2026 is a great filter.
 
The quick release is much stronger on pro 2s than on the ecco. The impeller shaft should not be tampered with, unless you know how to handle them anyway. The impeller shafts are the same quality on both eccos and pro 2s as well. The impeller shaft is in no way a fault of Eheim, but rather user error.

The classics come with the double tap connections. I own both a ecco and numerous classics. I like the classics far more than the eccos.

I totally disagree. They are quite user friendly
