far far away
I am upgrading filters on my 55 gallon aquarium as I am going to upgrade my current bioload a considerable amount. Another thing to be considered is that I am a freak about crystal clear healthy water and do want over filter my tank quite a lot. The bioload will be very high for a 55 gallon and I want a quality filter that will last a good amount of time which is why I turned to eheim.
The four filters I have narrowed my choice down to are:
Eheim Classic 2260
Eheim Pro 3e 2078
Eheim Wet/Dry 2229
Eheim Pro 3 2080

And one more important factor money is no issue here
Thankyou in advance:)

Money no issue? Go the Pro3E. Not the fastest flow rates but contact with the oodles of media it holds and the practicality of all of the electronics and speed monitoring on a heavily stocked tank will do wonders.

Regardless of what filter you choose, remember it doesn't mean you can lighten off on your water changes, which is a common misconception on these boards.

anyone else have any opinions or advice and what is the best media for each of the eheims you guys recomend.

Over filtering is one thing, but if you want crystal clear water, you will be better off running a smaller filter (2076, 2028, 2217) and an AC110 with 2 foam blocks and a purigen pack. A pro 3 or 2260/2262 is way too much for a tank that small. Bigger filtration will not help if your tank doesn't have the physical volume to support your fish.

so now im thinking bout a 2078 or a wet dry 2229 what media do you suggest
Don't go with the wet/dry it is another type of filter, and quite a headache at that. The 2078 is a good filter, but again, you shouldn't need that big of a filter. Your water volume will dictate more than your oversized filter. If you really want to have a heavy bio-load, then you should do a w/d filter sump with an auto water changer.

ok so far i think ill go with one of the pro 3e filters because it seems to be very user freindly and do an efficant job from what I hear.

It would do you wonders to listen to the good advice wydfya gave you...
