Which eheim?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
you would be better off with getting a bigger tank and making a wet/dry filter... most of those filters are way to big for a 55...

I would also highly recommend taking the advice from WyldFya as he is an Eheim master :D (seriously, so dont be like "ya whatever".)

Bit of a necro but..

I run a 2078 on a 300l trop, bottom basket mechPro top 3 subsratPro2, all running fine, water fine, happy fish.

Having said that I also run an XP2 for extra mec & polishing but I suspect the Eheim is doing most the work as I saw most improvement when I added it changing first from a 305 then an XP4 none combined with the XP2 gave the results I have now.

I run an eheim 2217 and a ac110 on my 90g and a maxijet 900. My water is crystal clear. Do my water changes once a week sometimes twice a week.

1-2 Eheims 2217 will do. No need to burn money, even if you have it.

My experience, 2 - 2236`s, is the canisters do a great job of bio and an OK job on the mechanical side. If I was you, any of the filters already mentioned would work well, with the addition of a high flow hob for getting the "floaties" out.
Same went for my sump, excellent bio, just OK on floating debris.
Water became 80% cleaner with a small, high flow hob running nothing but a green scour pad.
