Which Filter For a 125 Wide? - Eheim 2028 or Fluval FX5

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Okay... I thought about the price difference and think its way more worth it for me to just get the Eheim 2250. What filter media and how much of it do I need? Thanks. I will probably be ordering the one linked in this thread.

As it says in that link: holds 12L of media. I'd go 1/3 EhFiMech, 2/3 EhFiSubstratPro. Add some filter floss on top.

Do not forget to also order the quick-connector-valves. They make your life so much easier when you clean the filter!

Enjoy a great filter,
HarleyK

Thanks... That's what I'll get.

So this thing doesnt even come with a filter pad?

Sorry for the beginner questions... All I've owned were fluvals.

After doing a lot more research on these filters, it seems like they are a lot more trouble then fluvals. It seems to be a lot harder to put together and clean. Is this true or am I missing something?

The lack of baskets probably make it a lot more tedious to clean, 800 micron media bags should help.
But if used properly, you'll only be opening them once every 4-6 months, so it shouldn't be to much of a hassle.

I'd also take HarkeyK's advice on getting quick disconnect fittings, should make removing it from the pipes a breeze.

It would help a great deal IMO if ya had another filter for mechanical, and left this beast for bio. Sticking an open celled sponge on the intake and rinseing that out weekly will greatly reduce the frequency ya crack it open to clean it.

The main reason for this filter is actually mechanical filtration. I have a Del Ray 125 wet/dry with an Eheim 1260 pump (635gph) for biological filtration. Definately more Bio filtration wouldnt hurt and I want more but the main purpose is mechanical. That's also why Im concerned with the maintanence and cleaning of it. Should I be going with a different filter?
