Check out the sticky in this forum for reliability. Obviously, that is what you are looking for. Eheim ranks top of the class, and the Classic line is very well affordable. The 2250 would work great for your tank (~$200 w/o media)
i got a powerhead this week, but the bio wheels on the current filter barely work not enough pressure is getting in to force water up the tube i guess? so i guess it really is time for a new filter ill go to big als, petco and petsmart tommorow or during the week and write down prices and come back to mfk with the details thanks for the suggestions keep em coming =)
I agree. I've tried all sorts of filters in my day but keep going back to the Aqua Clear 500 (110). They have the least moving parts to fail and are a joy to take care of! Unlike canisters that do a decent job but who looks forward to ripping them down and scrubbing every piece and putting it all back together and hoping it all jives so you don't have to rip it all apart again...I hate that. Or my favorite...Extra parts... Jeesh..Get an Aqua Clear and everyone/fish will be happy!
I personally take my canisters down on my 135 once a week to clean the media in wc water. My eheim filters however have run for 6+ months without maintenance and without a loss of power.
