Just like the thread title says, which is a better way to go for filtering a 300g freshwater setup, a sump or a canister? What are the advantages and disadvantages of each? If I choose the sump, how would I set it up?
yep i agree. It's a myth that sumps can't have as good mechanical filtration as a canister. Canister owners need to face it that sumps are better in every possible way (except perhaps size-wise but if the tank is 300 gallons chances are there going to be plenty of room under the stand for a sump)jcardona1;4727380; said:Definitely sump for a tank that size. A sump with some low-micron filter socks will give you all the mechanical you ever need.

For any tank above 200 gallons canisters start becoming cost prohibititive and a diy sump becomes the only cost-effective option.
