ok as kinda getting away from the overpriced thread which i think has veered away from it's point. i want to know which fish people think are not worth their price? give some reasoning for why you think so not just "rays are too expensive" i dont want this to turn into woe is me this fish is expensive i can't afford it, i want it to be as stated what fish don't give the bang for the buck

for me it's the hybrid parrot fish, i just don't get it they dont have a lot of personality like a lot of big cichlids, i don't especially like their look, and it's not like you get predatory coolness or anything like that. i just don't see anything special about them at all. to me they resemble a big goldfish yet my store charges $30-$90 depending on the size and people buy them. i just dont get it.

and if you'd like add in which fish you think are great bargains for what they offer at a reasonable price.

I agree with you on the hybrid parrots. I also frown upon fish with little personality. One general type of fish is the pleco. All the different kinds you can get range in price from a few dollars to a few thousand. I have never seen personality in plecos and I couldn't see myself spending hundreds for something like a "zebra pleco". Not that I can't afford it, but why so much money for a "0" in the personality category?

Electric blue rams. I paid 44.50 for two. They're even more delicate than german rams which i kept them with. I lost one the day after i got them and got my money back and the other died a week later, but was past the return policy. The only thing they have going for them is the color. Besides that they're like fragile rams.

Agree on the parrots. IMO they should be made illegal because of the obvious defects they have. Curvature of the spine that will impact on their swim bladder and kidneys when they get older. Don't like flowerhorns either. Actually, make that cichlid hybrids. There are so many of us trying to breed fish true to strain and then you get some fools crossing two species and you end with stuff like parrots and flowerhorns. I don't know what it is and I don't want to sound racist here but why do the South East Asian breeders need come up with fish like these plus the balloon varieties of some very popular fish, like rams, pearl gouramies and mollies. Sorry, I don't get it and it's a disgrace. And then you get them tattooed and that really gets my blood up. OK deep breath, rant over.

Other fish that I don't think are worth their money are L46. Nice fish but I wouldn't pay the money

Koi can be cool, but i don't understand why anyone would pay over $5000 for one fish that lives outside in a pond. also, certain annual killifish species can go for $60 a pair. as cool as they look, i wouldn't wanna pay that much for something that has the lifespan of a guppy

I would have to defend some species of plecos. I do hear what your saying about hundreds for a zebra pleco that stays under 3". But some larger psuedacanthicus sp. for example are actually fairly active once they get used to the tank and can look amazing(IMO). And if you are talking bang for your buck, you can buy a juvie of some species for less than $40 that can be worth hundreds at full size.

I'd have to go with the L46's not being worth their money also. $200-$300 for a 1" fish that hides all the time? There's a lot prettier Plecs with a lot more personality for a heck of a lot less money. If they were common no one would even want them.
(My Blood Parrots have tons of personality and are under $10 here :p )

didn't mean to offen ya twisted, if they were $10 in my area maybe but not $30 for a 1.5" and up to $90. not when i could get jags, festae, texas, near everything for cheaper and imo bring more to the table.

That's the 2nd time in a week someone apologized to me. I feel bad now because I must be coming off as a b*tch. I wasn't offended-I certainly understand poeple's difference in tastes :)
