I would have to defend some species of plecos. I do hear what your saying about hundreds for a zebra pleco that stays under 3". But some larger psuedacanthicus sp. for example are actually fairly active once they get used to the tank and can look amazing(IMO). And if you are talking bang for your buck, you can buy a juvie of some species for less than $40 that can be worth hundreds at full size.

just to let you know, I dont completely hate them. I keep plecos myself and I do think that there are alot of beautiful ones.

Koi.... Thousands of dollars for a goldfish? Sorry, but I think some people just buy them cuz they got the money. I see little difference between all the thousand dollar ones online and the $10 ones at me LFS lol

blennies and gobies i fink are over priced as they offer not much as their not big at all their not colourful well some gobies can be and they hide quite a bit so u hardly see them and the fish stores sell them for £20 and can be even more and also another marine fish wic is a definite overpriced salty is the flame angel £70 they expect me to pay for the only fing that fish has got is a unique colour otherwise its not very good at all

We need a fish that ARE worth their cost thread

oscar first :D

On topic:those expensive koi with all the weird names o.O

DATS DEFINATLY OVER PRICED N OVER RATED
:banhim:I dont get the parrot cichlids or the flowerhorns with their big kocks. Some of these fish go for a pretty penny and I've had one before(didnt cost much at all)but I see some with these exotic names but they are all the same thing only with high price tags.I'm with the poster who mentioned the astronomicaly priced koi also. That whole genre is out of hand and I like some of them, especially the butterfly types but I wont pay over ten bucks for any of them especially since I cant keep the raccoons out of my pond.

Most african cichlids. Peacocks for example are easy to breed and readily availabe but can go for $30-50 for a single male. Even yellow labs at $8-9 ea is a lot. It's a pretty color but again easy to breed and readily available. Frontosa and other deep water fish I understand the price as it's difficult to collect them because the fish need to be decompressed, sometimes over several days. Also they grow slow so paying $100-200 for a large male has some credibility.

Electric Blue Jack Dempsey - $50 (in my area) for a 1" fish that has a 50/50 chance (at best) to live to make the magic 3" mark. I love them but can't bring myself to pay that for a fragile fish.

Pbass. some of them go for ALOT.
theyre large unnatractive uncolourful personalityless fish. theyve never appealed to me and i ahve seen some really nice ones, so id say theyre over price!

Discus forms can go for way too much. they dont even swim very much. they are beautiful but way too priced.

as for the plecos in my LFS someone went in and caght a zebra pleco with their bare hands put in their pocket and took it to their car to put in a bucket. they actualy shoplifted a 200 dollar (equivalant) pleco, isnt that crazy?

I picked up a blood parrot for 7.99 at my lfs. My girlfriend had to have one of those " pretty orange fish" .
