Hello all,
Today i went to the local fish store. There i found two fishes that were not looking that great. But since they were put in very bad condition, i thought of bringing them home to give them proper care. They indeed are looking quite dull. Now they (two) are in a 55 gwllon tank all by themselves. Ph is 8.

Can anyone help me with identifying what kind of fish is this? And please suggest how to care for them. Are they male or female?
From tomorrow, i will put them on NLS Thera A+ diet.

will keep posting the progress on their health.

Beat me to it lol. They are usually a schooling species living in large groups of mostly females to a small number of males...territorial,rock and cave dwelling and feeds on algae.

That is where it gets dicey as they don't take well to newcomers to their group. You could let this pair settle in and get their bearings and then try adding a few others and see how it goes.

I agree with the others.
But if it were me, I'd buy as many as I could, and not have any other species of cichlid in the tank. A proper number would be 8 or more.
They are algae grazers, so primarily vegetarian, although while scraping algae, they scrape up small crustaceans that supplement their protein needs.
A food like NLS Algaemax (or other spiraling based food) would be a good daily staple, and being from Lake Tanganyika, require very clean low nitrate water,
Because Lake Tanganyika is a very stable 75-82'F (large lake) temps in the high 70s work well, I found when kept above 82' they tended to bloat, and were subject to fungal infections

I was thinking add more before these ones get settled. We have them and the males are really territorial. Ours are in a 90g and I wish the tank was bigger. They like lots of aeration in the water so a circulating pump aimed at the surface is a nice bonus to them. These fish are always moving and beg for food whenever you go near the tank. If you could find 15 more mostly females would be yours best bet.
Good Luck and enjoy your Tropheus.

Thanks for your responses.

If these are herbivores, and if i feed them nls thera A, will it be fine? Or i should get some veggie pellet?

I noticed that these two fishes are not healthy. White stringy poop. I guess thats parasite or hex. Not sure how i will combat these parasites.

Now getting a feelIng that i should not have brought these.

Wow, never seen an adult. I see juvies all the time, even had one waaay back in day. Love how the young ones look too!!

The fishes are not eating as well.. i have put myself in big trouble by buying these two fish with parasites.
