Which Gar is this?

Welcome to the forum, mate!

1) What type of Gar is it? I have posted the images in this comment below. I think it is either a Shortnose Gar or Alligator Gar, going by the pictures online.
******Good eye. It's a little gator.

2) I feed it canned shrimps and "floating protein-rich food sticks". Do you suggest anything else for feeding?
****Sounds good... if the shrimp are wholesome, no additives, no salt, no seasoning, oil, etc. They take any manner of fleshy dead aquatic foods plus frogs, insects, etc. Very unfussy. Eating machines they are.

Live feeders are not an option
*****Good.

3) I have only 1 fish (the gar) in the tank. Is it wise to add another Gar or some other fish, or should I leave this as is?
*****It depends on the tank size and the bio filtration and compatibility - as pointed out above, which agrees with my experience, they are a gamble to combine with other fish, except IME, mine two never touched any other gars (longnose, spotted), giant gouramies, pacu, maybe a few others.

Is it healthier for the fish if there are other fishes in the tank, as opposed to a sole fish?
*****It is not a shoaling fish. They are solitary. So, no.

4) Is it possible to figure out the gender of the Gar fish? How?
****IDK.

5) There are a few youtube videos of people petting their Gar. Is it safe to pet the Gar?
*****As stated above, that'd be a bad, bad idea.

I would also appreciate links to web pages that talk about how to handle/take car of Gars.
****Links and forums above provided... plus Google :)

My three 2.5' gars (in temporary QT 120 gal) - two gators and a Florida (spotted) gar:
