Which is better for plants?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
IMO a 6700k light works better. I have 3 48'' T5 6700k lights and 1 36'' 10000k . Ive noticed more algea growth when the 10000k light is on so now I keep it off...

So i ended up finally picking up this ballast. Trying to get my hair grass to grow, and having some problems, im wondering would it be beneficial to replace the full spectrum bulb with another 6700k so it would have 2 - 6700k bulbs instead of 1 -6700k and 1- full spectrum??

I run this exact fixture on both of my 20longs & I'm pretty sure that "full spectrum" lamp is already meant to be perfect for the plants. I didn't meter it or anything, but its a very nice bright white. I think the "colormax"/ "full spectrum" provides some IR & some UV for the plants, while the other 6,700k lamp provides additional light in the meat of the useable spectrum. My plants love this combo, so I'd just stick with that...

what plants do you have in ur 20 long. So far im having success with java moss, java ferns, wisteria and vallisneria, bronze crypt. But im pretty sure my hairgrass is dying off...

I prefer a mix of 67000 and 10000K myself, as really it has to do with your eye. I doubt plants have a preference to either and if they do, it's not noticeable.

Plants definitely have a preference... The SUN. Sun puts out full spectrum, including IR & UV. 10,000k may or may not have enough of that spectrum. We would have to see the spectrum diagram for that particular lamp.
