They are suggesting with the term "multiple filters" that you do not only go with a canister.. But HOB's as well.. Hence havin multiple filteres and multiple types.

It's always good to have more than one filter in case one fails. I just broke the lid on one of my Rena XP3's today. It's a good thing I also have another XP3, an XP4 and a 60 gallon sump. You can never have too much filtration.

i'd go with a mix of canisters and hang ons if your hang ons fit.
mine don't.

With your bioload I would go for a canisters and a wet/dry. But answerinh your OP I would go with a mix of both canister and hob.
