which is better longer or tall tank?

Hmm, a 125 vs a 150. I like more water volume but it depends on the footprint. I would always take a 72" tank over a 48" tank.

I am looking to get a 150 long (72x18x29tall) in the future myself.

standing or sitting in front of a tank that is 6 feet long but also 29 inches tall is amazing.

it takes up a whole wall, and is very dramatic in my opinion.

and it is still wide enough for all but the biggest of fish.

its the perfect tank, for the money IMO. :)

you can certainly go bigger, but in my area at least, that 24 inches in width with 6 feet in length comes with a BIG leap in price..

The longer/wider tank has more water surface area for the interchange of gases, so all other things being equal, it would allow more fish. But the higher capacity tank with the larger water volume will allow more dissolved waste without reaching a dangerous level.

So each in it's own way is "best". But when you consider that an oversized wet/dry filter added to each would boost the gas interchange rate tremendously with the extra surface area, I'd go for the bigger tank. Deeper tanks just look better, that's why they are called "show tanks". Low/wide tanks are called "breeder tanks" because they support more fish in less water, which is only good with very effective filtration.

Go for a 150 Wide... 5x2x2 :D

Stay away from the 150tall trust me I had one then I got a 220, I still have the 150tall if you want to buy it :D

problem is, in my area, 150 wides are not avaible.

only two sizes stocked at my LFS:

72x18x29

or

48x24x30 - your standard Perfecto and All Glass (Aqueon) sizes.

I have never even SEEN a 5 foot 150 wide.

but I know they can be ordered off of Glasscages, but there are quite a few bad experiences with them documented on this board..so I am very reluctant..

I have seen non GC 150wides.... ask your LFS manager about them they might be able to hook you up....

There was a 4x2 150 at the petsmart near me. It looked massive compared to the 6x1.5 125 it was sitting next to. A 125 long is 72x24x17 though, isn't it?

Longer and deeper is much more important than height, at least to an extent.
