From what I have read about the FX5, I'll put my Marineland C-530 up against it any day, it's a beast. Haven't tried the sump thing yet but looking forward to it. With just the overflow on a sump that is not the same as an intake tube sucking up the dirt. I would find it weird to not have an intake tube in the tank.

Hayward EC40 DE pool filter. $220 delivered from Amazon. Nothing else mentioned will come close to the water clarity. I have had it for 9 months with pretty much NO maintenance. I am still on the original charge of DE powder. After having been given a Diatom D-1 and been incredibly impressed by it I gambled my $220 that the Hayward EC40 DE pool filter would work on an aquarium. I am TOO PLEASED!!!! So I guess I am now a self appointed DE pool filter evangelist trying to spread the word about how great they work!
