Which is the better Protein Skimmer?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I had a super skimmer and it worked great. Pulled out really thick black gunk. Also had friends with them and they worked just as well.

The only problem with them, is that they're not a high end skimmer so they can take some tinkering. Once you get them working they work great.

One of the fish stores I used to frequent was running one in the sump of their 180g reef tank (which was stuffed with corals and several fish), and it was working wonderfully.

I would rather buy an AquaC which will work indefinitely basically without maintenance...so if you have the hand for it...and want to tinker continuously I guess...but I still wouldnt recommend it. Having owned and knowing people that owned both I really wouldnt be able to do it with a clean conscious. Had the seaclone...it did WORK...and I wouldnt say it was as bad as the others, but for $80 more I could have had the remora which blows it out of the water.

I just looked at skimmers yesterday (and in fact purchased a super reef octopus), and I noticed coralifes have gone up in price.

Knowing that, I wouldn't recommend buying one since there are a lot of better options for around the same price.

I coughed up the extra couple bucks for the Reef Octo and have never regreted it. Effective, easy to use, and quiet...hard to beat that combo.
