Hap. Obliqieudens from lake Victoria. They only get about 5 inches long but man oh man are they mean. I once had a 5 inch male that would spar off with a 10 inch Venustus about once a week. It was anybody's guess who would win once they started but man oh man that little guy was brutal!!!! :nilly:

i've read on the cichlid forum and seen in my tank that cichlids from lake malawi absolutly rule cichlids from lake victoria and lake tanganyikan... until the haps start gettin a bit bigger than the malawis...then they just stand their grounds still no attacking malawi's thou...!!!

I find that hilarious. In comparison to other cichlids, convicts rank about 4 on a 1-10 scale where 1 is the least aggressive and 10 is the most. They don't even belong on a list of top ten aggressive cichlids.
thats true i was just saying they were mean

in no perticular order being that you can rank fish from a speices because all fish are induviduals with different aggresion tendencies, but in general i'll mention some aggresive cichlids that i myself have kept rather than ranking fish i have no experince with like what some people are doing.

Peacock bass, azuls and tems- not kind to other tankmates to say the least

Parachromis Dovii- i got to see some very aggresive tendencies from all but 1 and that was a female.

Umbee- F1 TUIC female, not extremely aggressive but definetly could hold here own against any single cichlid under 15"

Jaguars- many over the years, most aggresive was a single 12" male later sold- TUIC, 2nd place- 14" F0 Breeding pair from TUIC, killed numerous cichlids- includeing female umbee earlier mentioned.

Grammodes- Very aggresive pound for pound, never had one over 6" though. will have a 11-12" one day.

Midas- rangeing from 6-12" both males and females, most showed aggresion but not overly agro.

I hear ya on the Grammodes growth. I have a female thats just over 1 now and shes only 3". Nasty little thing. But grows really slow

Chill fan all I know is that this little guy didn't take **** off of anyone, it was amazing how fearless and aggressive he was. Actually it was a pain in the ass sometimes. :irked:

Going the pound for pound route, I'd like to add the dwarf mbuna to the list. P. demasoni in particular are just plain evil when they fully mature. IME, most can't be kept in groups under 12. What they bite comes off in their mouths, scales, fins, eyes... When 2 males lip-lock & break, the snap can be heard across the room on a 3" fish. They ruled my Hap. obliquidens. I had a group of about a dozen fry growing out in a 10 gallon & at about 1/2" they killed the poor S. eupterus I had in there for cleanup duty. He was 2.5". My 3.5" P. saulosi colony killed a 7.5" pleco in a day while I was at work. He was doing OK for a few months & then I moved some rocks cleaning. They resettled their territories & he was no longer welcome...
