I have a Jaguar, Oscar, Red Devil, and Jack Dempsey and the hands down the Red Devil is the biggest pain. All are around 10" (except the Jack who is only 6"). They have been together for many months.

dovii , hands down , not even close. I had a 15" male, super aggessive and sneaky, had to water change tank with net in one hand sihpon in over plus pay good attention. It was like he knew when i wasn't and timed his assault. Other times he would be very shy, I remember adding the biggest bone white red devil male i had ever seen , as big as my chest, he dwarfed my dovii and I remember being scared for "Claude", but I left the room for 10 min came back and Claude had strip mined all the scales on both sides of the red devil , All of the scales, All of them on the flanks of the fish. No lip locking, no tail wagging, no dominance displays, Just the biggest sized ,Monster red devil by far I have ever seen and I've seen alot going down , with its last couple breaths. I couldn't believe it. needless to say no more attempts at tank mates. I miss that fish and wan't another. I have two , but they don't have any where near the color and dominant look and finnage.

Blood red parrots. They bullied everyone in my tank. And every time I stuck my hand in the tank they hurried over to me and began attacking me. It hurt really bad and I eventually just stopped putting my hand in the tank to clean it. Even though they cant close their mouths, they can bite pretty hard, trust me....

judging from some of these posts, the problem isnt 'aggressive' fish, its people mixing 'trophy' fish together without fully understanding the character and natural behaviour of each species... some of the combinations of tankmates i've read have been down-right irresponsible!!! now i've finished my rant, i'll nominate any of the south american pikes... purely for aggression... now put it up against a dovii and the pike would get battered, but would the dovii take on a fish 3-4 times its own size?.. doubt it. the pike would... so pound for pound, judging on aggression only, crenicichla regani etc are pretty mean...

My 7" male Red Devil is the most aggressive/territorial fish I have ever owned. You can't walk within 4ft of his tank without being "attacked". He's not my biggest fish or the strongest, just mean and nasty. He now lives alone in a 75 because from 2" he would attack & kill anything else I tried in the tank. He is very cool and loaded with personality, just not very friendly!

In my 750 litertank I've got a young male Caquetaia Spectabilis, which is more agressive than the Pikecichlid (C. Saxatilis), and when he's fully grown, he'll be bullying the Oscars, Heros', and RB Pacu also.

But it's a pretty fish.:D

i have to say five spot generals are the baddest ounce for ounce fish out there. I have kept large jags, red devils, terrors, pikes and evrytime i have had a five spot in there they own tank. i just picked one up a couple months ago after not having one for years and same thing happend in tank.
