So for my 125 which will be a Central American tank with the main stock being a group of Thorichthys I wanted to know how I should setup the tank. The two options I thought of were a biotope scape or a planted tank. The biotope scape would be great for the fish to see how they would be in the wild almost but I feel that getting all the wood and rocks would be exspensive and I don’t think I could set it up well. The other option is a planted tank with a peice of manzanita in one side with plants all around it and then open space on the other side with some small rocks and driftwood. What do you guys think I should do?

Depends on what stock you thinking of having.
I was going to do a group of Thorichthys (probably ellioti), a centerpeice fish like cribroheros robertsoni or Oscura heterospila, maybe a pair of small cichlids and a group of live bearers

One of Lee's thorichthys tanks, rocks collected dry oak twigs, all the raw materials are easy to find.
Sounds like a nice stock,

That looks like a great tank, could you just go and find the twigs and branches in a forest or something, also what do you have to do to prepare them

Yeah, I use oak or Ash, as long as the twigs are dry then I just poor boiling water over them and soak them for a few days. Never use green wood or soft wood like pine. Only use twigs or branches that have naturally fallen off the tree.
The branches in mine are Ash, the rocks came out of a river, all together cost me about £5 in petrol.
(Still a work in progress and not finished)

The tank looks great, will have to go looking for rocks and wood then

IMO a group of maculipinnis and robertsoni would look awesome. I very bias about robertsoni, because the color. They look drab as juvis but adults look amazing.
