they wouldnt meet DOT regulations unless you install the necessary lights, smog equipment, ect......They can be made legal. It wouldnt be practical at all thought. If it broke have fun finding parts and someone to fix the sr20det

hell yeah and they DO break and its often! head gaskets go all the time and when an advanced jap car goes wrong they do it with expensive style!

I would rather go w/ the GTO. But, if your looking for another car to top your brother's car. I would recommend a 97' supra w/ twin turbo. Crank it up w/ a stage 3 turbo and all hel;l will break loose.
