I have nothing against Yamaha either....I was running a Pro V on my last boat. The Mariner came with my current boat, and has been trouble free for me for the last 3 years. However, I run my boat 12 months a year at least 6 times a month so that keeps them ginning.

a 150 yamaha on a 17 foot sea pro v haul and a another on 150 yamaha on a 21 carolina skiff
yamahas seem to be very problemadic every one i know has had to put big bucks into theres. my friends lower unit just went bad on a newer yamaha, they only had the boat for a few days to

the carolina skiff gets ran year around between tending to the calm beds and duck hunting . never has left me yet watch i prob just jinxed myself

My Yamaha was trouble free as well, but like I said. My boats are never "Wintered" I fish year 'round.

evinrude e-tech is the best by far. there isnt a 4-stroke motor that can compete w/ a two stroke...especially when u start talking about reliability...not to mention power. since evinrude came out w/ the e-tech and reduced emissions and improved efficiency...there are no challengers left.

I know yamahas and hondas are awesome. I also know that my 32 year old merc starts when you bump the key. It's pretty awesome. Every manufacture has their bad models though. My boss has a 150 Johnson that had an air cooled CPU. Horrible idea. He made fun of me until I was the one fishing in a boat that cost less than the part to fix his LOL.

Merc and Evin. I worked at the boat industry for a while - Merc and Evin made good quality engines and they were easy to work on.

back in the day I would say johnson, but honda would be the choice for me if I was in the market for a new one
