I may be able to get a poly from my LFS afterall. :D

I spoke to the manager and he said he's going to his distributor this weekend to check out their stock. He asked me for which ones I'm looking for specifically. I'm very much interested in getting a Del. But in case he couldn't get that, I was wondering what other poly you guys can suggest as an alternative. I'm looking for something that's not going to get huge, not aggressive and quite active.

What I had in mind was:
- Palmas Palmas
- Palmas Buettikoferi
- Palmas Polli

Are they good choices? I'm also open to other suggestions. You guys would know more about polys than I do.
Thanks! :)

any of those 3 would be fine.

Unfortunately 2 of the 3 LFS in my area said they are unable to get even any polypterus species except for an Ornate. I'll find out tonight if the 3rd LFS would be able to get one but I'm not holding much luck since it seems very rare to find a poly in my area. My backup plan is to order online but the two prospective sellers I have in mind is doesn't have a Del in stock. Jeff has a Buettikoferi and Toyin has a Palmas. Between the two, which is more rare and which would be a better choice? Is there a big difference between the two Palmas species?

Also, as far as seller goes, which is more reliable? I've heard good things about both but I'm just a little unsure since this is the first time I'm thinking of buying a fish online. I'd hate to end up with a dead fish on arrival especially after paying for shipping. Speaking of shipping, does anyone know how both sellers ship their livestock? UPS, FedEx, USPS, something else?

A Buettikoferi is more rare

Ornates get a little too big for my liking and I heard they develop a mean streak as they get bigger. But they sure are nice looking polys lol.

I am still tempted to believe that those Ornates that developed "Mean streaks" were kept in in improper conditions and frequently fed on live foods that require aggression to hunt down. So many people keep big pretty Ornates in giant communities ignoring the fact that ornates really don't like being around their own kind(meaning their own particular species). Will they tolerate it? Yes, they don't have much of a choice do they? Just as they will put up with being in tanks too small, too crowded, and tanks with improper set up (no substrate, no hide holes, etc). Something is going to give and aggression may be their coping mechanism.

If you take proper care of ornate it shouldn't turn into a mean monster.
