Hey guys,

I have been stalling setting up this tank for much too long. I am not the wise one when it comes to plumbing. Well, today I put a DIY sump together and just need to order a pump. Any recommendations? I want something that will be quiet, but strong and efficient.

I saw a few other people using Laguna Max Flo pond pumps but how quiet are those? I will pay the $$ to get a quieter pump. I would definitely like some more spendy and more cheap options. Have at me! :)

I will be trying a super dart in a few days

I would try laguna if you are looking for submersable

Yep, I think the pump is quite. I also have a Mag 24 that is submersed. It doesn't move quite the water but it is very quiet if that's your main objective.
You should look into different overflow options if you are concerned about noise. For example the splashing/sucking of a Durso is a ton louder than a Herbie or Bean Animal setup. Here's a link that does a nice job of explaining. There's also a ton of info over on ReefCentral.

Laguna Max-flo 2400's. A pair of em. That's what I use. If they ever break, I'm gonna replace em with Max-Flo 2900's. Yep, they're quiet.

My 540's is a little bit quieter than my 125 with Eheim 2262 canister filter.
