Which setup would be best for an MBU Puffer?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I was referring to MyGiants post.

pufferpunk ,maybe one day you will realise that there are other ways of doing things,
chewyflipper give an opinion based on experiance, surely their advice has as much merit as your own.

Was the above comment helpful to the op?

Thats like saying my sports advise has the same merit as Ron Jaworski. Just because I once played football in middle school doesn't make me an expert. There is a difference between "an experience" and "experience"

indeed. so in your view my giant is wrong as he give an opinion based on an experience... fair enough

pufferpunk has plenty of experience and has helped plenty on the different forums i have visited, what gets my goat is the attitude that unless you follow her advice on tank size, tankmates etc you are wrong...end of story.
The reason this annoys me enough to post about it is how she gives advice on puffer fish keeping that she cant keep herself. For example she has no qualms about telling someone straight that a fahaka cannot under any circumstances have tank mates while as she herself say's about filbert, her fahaka in another thread,
' The Hypocrite mbu'

'You are right about Filbert. We all make mistakes & I am willing to admit it. He is in a tank that is too small for him & I have admitted that here & on my forum, often. I got him 10 years ago & there really wasn't much info on them on the web at that time. I do not have the room, nor the finances to get him the 180+g tank he deserves. As far as his tank mates. he does leave them alone. He is a gentle giant. The tank mates he's with now, all get along great. I don't know why he picked certain fish to hate, after living with them since they were juvies. 99% of fahakas are killers. I don't recommend keeping fahakas with other fish if they show any sign of aggression.'

i get the fact that none of us are perfect, however jumping into posts with the 'holier than now' attitude and in some cases putting people of keeping fish altogether ( in the same conditions as she keeps her own) stinks and im sick reading it.

search for ' Filbert turning into a killer' to see the extent of the hypocrisy im talking about.

Okay lets not all start jumping down each others throats again... Every one is entitled to their opinion...

As i stated in the 2nd post, personally i think an MBU should be in a tank about 800G

I based this on the fact i think my 200G for my fahaka seems cramped... So a 30" fish in a 300G to me seems crazy (again personal opinion)

Now since this is a forum every one will have an opinion... some better than others, some we want to hear, some we dont...

I say just try and use your logic and rationalize what you think makes sense and what doesnt...

Like seriously, if a member really feels like an mbu will work for life in a 300G, and you have or can afford the tank + fish, chances are you'll do it anyway regardless what people say...

Just my 2 cents...

A 300 gallon would be fine for a Mbu Puffer, at least for awhile. Don't get discouraged by what "experts" say, when I first got my Mbu (3" inches) I had em in a 150 gallon. He's about 8" now and would be fine in there but luckily I'm fortunate to have a 360 gallon and moved em over. I'm not saying he won't out grow that tank but when the time comes and I see him suffering, best believe I will do the right thing. I have mine with a small colony of frontosa, check out my link!
