Which SLR camera for under $700 LINK attached

Say no to best buy, they don't have the best deals. Best Buy is $30 higher on a SB600 flash than www.jackcamera.com. Not to mention a best buy employee is a lot like a petsmart employee. Typically they don't care/know. Go to a camera shop and try some out. You'll never know till you use them. Also, when it comes to Nikon, I love them. That said, I think they've screwed up with the D60 and 40. The aftermarket lens selection sucks. If you plan on getting more than 1 lens, go with the D80. It's a bullet proof camera that's well worth the money (if you're going to spend the bucks on a DSLR, you'll probably get more lenses whether you think so or not).

The additional cost of the D80 will make up for itself when you go to get another lens.

Check out b&H photo and do some searching online. If you have a real camera shop that's local it's worth going even if it is a bit more expensive (which I doubt) because they know what's up and can service the camera and help you understand it.

I'd say go for a used Nikon D80. I myself bought a used D80 last Friday for $800 and that includes 3 lenses and 2 x 2GB memory cards. Not a bad deal if you ask me. I got it off Craigslist by the way.

I agree with previous statments of going for the D80, and be prepared to spend plenty more on photography equipment when you get deeper into it. you will need a speedlight (flash) for your aquaria shots. (250-400) and not to mention alot more for len's and such (macro's, telephoto's, high powered zoom, wide angle,.... (my next lens will be over $1900- and i got into photography just last year.

i was under the impression that as long as there bodies came with the F mount nikon foot that they were compatible with all nikkor len's, aswell as the non Nikkor's len's made for nikon DSLR's with the F mount foot. Tamron, Tokina, Sigma, etc.

are the d40's and 60's different?

you can use the old lenses on them but the auto focus won't work. The drive mechanism is different on the 40s and 60s so they could make the body smaller.

i see.

so the only auto focus that works on them is for the brand new nikkor lens's?

there's a marketing trick:nilly:

I was only going to get it at bestbuy cause I have there card and its interest free for awhile.. I guess I should look for a D80. With the lens and options that come standard with it...can I take good pics of my fish and other objects in motion?

yep, sit down with the cam and the tank and play with the setting's until you get everything right on. try to get fish pics when the fish are moveing the least though. if you shoot slower shutter speeds with moveing fish, even decently fast speeds, you will get camera shake. (can be corrected with a tripod and VR nikkor len's.

I look at nikon like drugs, Just say no. Go Canon! I owned a d80: slow focus and hooking it up to a computer was a PITA (you had to use a wizard instead of it just showing up as a drive like canons).
