Which Solitary bad ass would you keep?

Get a Hait. You won't be dissapointed. Only problem is, the big guys are few and far between.....And SUPER expensive. We're talking $400+ for a big guy like mine.....Unless you find a deal ;)

My absolute favorite cichlid I've ever owned.

And I wouldn't personally keep them in a community. If they get stressed, they bloat and die. That's why there's not very many out there, and why the price for a large one is so high.

If you get a Hait, dedicate the tank to a pair. Your tank would be perfect for a pair for life.

Plus.....it's a fish that not many people have, and they are stunning when grown, and their breeding dress is awesome. If you get a pair, the female will turn jet black when breeding.

Do not settle for a run of the mill trimac though, those pyro / fire red ones are virtually FH's IMO. Go wild caught or go home lol.

But The Nandopsis line is truly stunning and much less rampant in the hobby than the amphilophus.
 
Stay away from Umbee or Dovii your 210g won't keep a fullgrown male happy. If your stuck on keeping one of the other's you mentioned solitary then I wouldn't waste a 210g. Pick up a 90,120,125 for a single specimen show tank. I had a nice Midas in a 120g that fit perfectly. Check out my gallery. Goodluck.

if you are certain it will be a one fish only-think this through because however amazing one fish is, it can't compete with a community of adult healthy centrals but remember com. willbe hard fustrating work and in need of extra tanks and dividers untill you have the right fish-then there is only 3 options. dovii, umbee or black nasty. MALES only. rest are just fodder and you will have regrets.

the only other option is a male and female festa. male will give you brute and female will give you salt water colours and personality.

also increase your budget and try to get the biggest healthy adults you can. small ones take far to long to grow. one doesn't have a 7ft tank for baby fish, its like getting a 32 inch tv when one wants a 80 inch.

7ft tank is alot of work one has to feel the work is worth it.

Butti's are awesome, easily have the most personality IMO. Yes maybe they don't have the most color but hey they are are perfect definition of a 'bad ass'.
