I'm having trouble finding which species of polypterus are captive bred. I've heard that it's uncommon for polypterus to breed in captivity and I really don't want to purchase a wild-caught one. If anyone can help create a list of captive-bred polypterus species, it would be much appreciated.

Ornate, Delhezi, Senegal (Albino too. Most common Bichirs.), Endlicheri

Plenty of polys are CB, especially the more beginner friendly species :)

Wild caught senegals are rare in particular, took me a while to get one. IMG_8594.JPG

I'm planning on getting an upper jaw species as they tend to be smaller, so a Senegal or Delhezi what I'm probably going to get. I live in HK so we don't have much space regardless of how much I like the look of the ornate bichir. The tank's footprint will be around 120cmx50cm.

Does anyone know if the P. palmas sub-species are commonly sold as well?

P. Palmas sub-species are commonly sold, beuttikoferi and palmas polli are available mostly all year round, but that depends on the lfs stocks or supplier. The only challenge is the palmas palmas.
