I've never done a planted tank and i'am new to the hobby. I do have a 125 to be planted tank. I was wondering what is better flourite substrate or eco complete substrate and why.

baked clay products have high cation exchange capacity (CEC), so they can capture and hold cations like potassium and iron in a way that makes them easier for plant roots to grab. eco-complete has been precharged with nutrients, meaning presoaked in water with captured nutrients. while flourite has not been presoaked. technically, turface proleague for baseball fields and certain kitty litters should work the same way.

they make different substrate too besides the sand. so you dont have to use sand i just found this pic

i always loved the black sand with plants.

So my vote is black sand and some green plants
