Which tank?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i would not put the ray in a tank with corydoras catfish. if the ray tries to eat one then it will be game over as it will lock its fins and the ray will efectively choke to death. plus get the crayfish out of there straight away or you wont have a tail left on the ray!

what is your waterchange schedule? water quality might be affecting her appetite

she has eaten only earthworms her whole life and should always go crazy over them.

if she has bite marks on her disc she is defo getting bullied by something. new tank and bullied = stressed ray.

ide ither move some preds what are doing the damage out or set up a temporary tank which you can move the corries into and put her in the other tank.

she sounds as if she is not happy in her new tank at all.

I do 40-50% once a week changes. Do you think that's enough? The water is clean, everybody's thriving. I think the pike was just being a territorial bit*h. She's like that with all the other fish (except the gars), but they aren't as fragile as the little ray is. They escape easier, and just stay away from her piece of driftwood. I think the rays disc is just to soft to take the nipping by the pike. And I can't put the pike anywhere else, cuz she either won't fit in the other tanks, or will eat every other fish in the bigger tanks.

I moved her to the other tank last night. This morning she did seem to go after the earthworms more aggressively this morning, eating a whole one (cut up of course). She seems more relaxed and happier in this other tank. I'll keep an eye on her and the corys, and if I notice anything out of the ordinary, I'll move them to another tank. They're too big for her to try to eat right now anyways (I know she could kill them, but they're too big for her mouth).

I haven't fed yet since I got home. I'll toss in some more worms, and hopefully she'll go crazy for them. If not, I'm going to the lfs over the weekend, I might try picking up some ghost shrimp to stimulate her appetite.

I just dumped in a pair of cut up nightcrawlers, and she started chowing right down. She's already eaten 2 or 3 pieces, and she's definitely got an appetite. I think it was just the pike picking on her and the other fish stealing her worms before she was ready to eat them. Hopefully she'll keep eating well and pack on some weight and size real fast :).

nice one mate. the pred tank was way to much for a new ray to acclimatise to, you did the right thing.

ide move the corys out anyway and anything else that could be anysort of problem to the ray.
the ray is the most important fish you now own! nothing else counts anymore lol.

fantastic man.

now just don't run the local wally world out of worms before I get some more.

By the way to give you an idea, Mine is eating about 3-4 whole (6-8") night crawlers a day. 3 full worms at first and then I leave one in the tank and it is gone with in the next hour. Of course I have no idea if that is normal or not but might works as a measuring tool for feeding.

Mine's only eating about 1-1.5 6" worms a day. But I was working a lot of overtime this week (unexpectedly), and she was only getting one meal a day, and she was stressed from aggressive tankmates on top of that.

I'm gonna try to make sure she eats at least twice a day from now on, and hopefully bump her appetite up a little better.

I'm not going to wally world :). There's a little tiny bait shop (run out of a bar :screwy:) not too far from my house, so I'm getting them there instead. The lady who sold the worms to me said I need to catch a record bluegill so she can say the bait was bought at her shop :screwy:.

Good deal man I probably should be feeding twice as well.

But i just feed the first 3 and then leave one in the tank. But I allways check and its gone within a hour or so.
