OK, koltsixx koltsixx was wanting to slim down the sticky section up top, which could totally be done. I thought I'd help by starting a poll - vote for which threads you think should be up top. (Unlimited voting options.)

The most recent one that was stickied is nice and comprehensive for ID and basic care, and might be able to replace a few others.

My personal opinions on a few that could go -

- ALL FINS UP !!!! - This is a fun thread but I don't see the need for it to be a sticky.

- West coast poly - This is just another picture thread. Why separate out west coasters?

- Bichir of the Month Winners - From 2009, no longer current.

- Polypterus related social groups - Appears outdated but maybe you have to be a member for them to show when you click the link?

- taking fish pix - don't think necessary

- A visual reference to Polypterid species – Many photos are missing/links broken. Can probably just be replaced with the top new sticky?

commonly mislabeled polypterus – photos/links are broken so not helpful anymore. :)

Buying bichirs online - older post with some vendors that no longer exist. If we want this maybe we should do an updated one....?

I kind of also think that the endli/lap variant pics one could possibly be replaced with the LJ ID thread that was started with a ton of nice pics of those variants with others, too. Or a thread could be created out of the photos that were compiled in that thread. Maybe not, just a thought.... I think that photos of the variants is helpful overall but the second one doesn't limit it to endli and laps.

I think they all have valuable info etc. if it's possible to combine them, or simply copy and paste one into another and just acknowledge who originally wrote it, we could slim down the stickies drastically.

Yeah, good idea, there could be links to one thread from another thread that is actually stickied up top. Honestly there are so many when I first started in the forum I didn't looked at half of them up there. If there were fewer people might look at them more closely.

And there are outdated or "broken" ones up there with no photos any longer

magpie magpie .

This is a wonderful idea.way to go on the initiative. :) I agree that some of the ones that have broken links/images should be reconstructed.

I'm on mobile right now. Is there a poll for the options or is it type it in the box?

+1

Same here. The ones I did look at were the beblondie ones about poly primer/FAQ and health problems . Tried doing the ID one and vendor one, but it was confusing with all the broken links/images.

Also very sad that the poly social groups is not current lol.

I personally like the All fins up cause it is fun. :) HAWKS UP.

If we can conbine everything and remove the ones that we dont need like
Polypterus related social site
Bichirs of the month winner
Buying bichirs online

Thanks for the assist magpie magpie I appreciate you trying to help. The Polys sections always been a fairly busy section and it would be nice to tidy things up IMO. I don't know if I want to eliminate any of the threads in the sticky section as much as I'd like to combine threads where I can. The major issue is the time and effort needed to do so.

Combing the threads if it's to be done correctly IMO they'd have to be reorganized so the information flows in a natural easy to follow way. Like starting with a preface naming all those involved in the thread as well as the sources. Then going into a general introduction about what's covered in the thread and then finally organizing it so all the individual species information stays together instead of being strewn about.

For instance all info regarding Endlicheri would be contained in the Endlicheri section such as Endli finlet count, scale count, distinguishing characteristics, collection points, locale variants, max size, etc, etc. would all be under the Endli section.

My reason for combining rather then eliminating is for a couple of reasons. One I want anyone who put enough effort into their thread becoming a sticky to keep at least some recognition by being included in the sticky section. Two it's a part of MFK history as such I think it should be preserved and kept up prominently. Three there's still a lot of relevant data in there IMHO.

More or less if it's gonna get done it's gonna be on me. lol I'm probably going to have to copy things to my computer so I can go back and edit them whenever I have free time and then start copy pasting when things get organized.

Personally I think the ones which shouldn't go are Polypterid fossils and Polypterid health issues.
Haven't scanned through many others yet as there is so many haha (can see why you want to trim now), but the ones which I have read, are either using broken links or dated information which may not be applicable to now.

I really like the Lap and Endli variant thread, but would like to see that rewritten and expanded on with updated information and pictures, maybe I'll work on something to illustrate :)

Don't want to be in danger of sounding a narcissist, but I'd like to see the Bichir Breeding Information thread stickied haha. The more exposure that one gets, hopefully we'd be seeing some more people breeding and contributing to the thread. :)
