i checked craigslist and found tanks from 90g to a 225 so i doubt the parents would allow a 225 but id go w/ a 125 for some african cichlids or jds and oscars?

Crappies and bass will outgrow the tank so that leaves you with the shellcracker or JD.

yea i may change the 55g idea and might get a 90 or 125 and it would take a small bass a while to outgrow the tank and a crappie could live in either.I might just get african cichlids? still dont know

First thing is figure out how big you can go at the most. Find the biggest tank you can afford/have space for, then figure out stock.

i have a jack dempsey going on 3 years now in a 55. he is not the funnest fish in the world. he is very moody and will hide a lot especially if he knows that people are looking at him.

my favorite native fish that do well in a 55 are what we call down here Goggle Eyes( Lepomis gulosus)and Pumpkin Seeds (Lepomis megalotis). they are good looking, active, and fun to watch. if i stick one of my fingers in my tank and wiggle it around they attack it.

my other two favorite fish the fire mouths and texas cichlid, which are central american cichlids. they live in harmony with my goggle eyes and pumpkin seeds.
