Which type of Eartheater?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Just be warned that they are all slow growers. So if you purchase 2" fish it will take them some time to grow into stunning adults. Robertsoni are readily available but the others a much rarer. They are also supposed to be very long lived fish. All can get close to 9" and I've heard that they can get bigger. I believe Reagan said he has a 13" Rostratus:WHOA:. Don't quote me on that but I'm pretty sure that is what he said.

Good thing the GT is a slower grower himself :D

Out of these, what would be the best fit and how many? (I'm thinking just 1 but I'm unfamiliar with these guys)

Amphilophus lyonsi
Astatheros calobrensis
Astatheros nourisatti
Astatheros rhytisma
Astatheros robertsoni
Astatheros rostratus

I'm really digging the lyonsi, so I'm hoping I would be able to fit a lyonsi and one of the others on the list.

I have never kept Lyonsi but have always been told they were less aggressive then most amphilophus. It might work but I'm not the right person to answer that. Lyonsi are not sifters though so they would not really fill the eartheater role but are definately a nice looking fish. If you go with the astatheros I would get 6 of one kind. You have the space for a group of them. If you don't want a group just get one becuase they can be pretty hard on each other but a large group spreads out the aggression and they seem to do much better with 5+ of them or a single. Pairs and trios don't seem to work well unless the tank is gigantic.

So you ought to bring another rhytisma JD :D
