When I got back into the fish keeping hobby about 5 years ago I agonized over all these details and spent tons of time researching all the options and balancing all the opinions. I have tried 7 or 8 different filters/filtration methods since then. Moved from gravel to sand. And tried a few different tank configurations. Now setting up a new tank is a no brainer, I know what I consider to be the best filtration method for me and my tanks and really wouldn't give much consideration to much else.

I now know what works for me and stick with it. On the other hand my '67 F100 isn't cutting it for a second utility vehicle any more and the options for 10~15 year old replacements are mind boggling!

You know by the time you just pick filtration, tank size, lights, Fish!!! With me for the most part it was color on my car. With the aquariums you buy a tank such as myself now I want a 220. I have made mistakes buying equipment that I personally wish I had made another choice on. So the money you can spend is just crazy. Then what makes it worse is all manufactures ar different with there claims so in many cases how do you compare?

Aquarium keeping - It's not rocket science. LOL!

Your Right it's not rocket science but you have to admit you can spend allot of time and money if you allow yourself to? It's like electronics guru's always something else coming along??

I spent about 4 months designing and redesigning my 300 gallon. I spent about 4 hours picking out and building my car online. Input the price I wanted to pay, went to the dealership, haggled for about 20 minutes and was done.

Sump took the most research and designing by far, but I knew exactly what I wanted and put in the time to get it that way. The beauty though is when you build a tank from scratch and have to wait for it to be built and delivered, all you have is time....

My next tank is going to be a sump....WOW what a scary thought with me? I could always mortgage my house and hire those guys from TV!!!
