Just made the overflow and painted it and drilled the hole, now does the arrow on the check valve point up or down...

should I be able to suck on it or blow on it? (the check valve)

you need to be able to suck air out of it, but not let air back in. The arrow should face up.

Ok, thanks, but wouldnt that let water out of the overflow?

Nope, the overflow isn't pressurized. It'll actually be trying to pull air in.

oh, ok...

I just put some silicone on it and stuck it in the hole.

How long should I let it dry before I test it for waterproofing?

I gave it a good hour before starting it up. Silicone wasn't completely dry, but it stabilized fine. I didn';t wanna lose my bacteria so i rushed it

ive found the silicone doesnt stick for crap to the check valves, i super glue em in.

didnt know u could :screwy:

thought it might kill the fish?? my dad suggested it but I already had the silicone... it seems to be sticking fine

took off the silicone and super glued it in... also it wont prime... can anybody tell me what the problem might be?

the super glue works great. to prime it plug the vent and drain with your fingers and suck on the check valve till you get nothing but water coming out the check valve.
