White cotton like alge

Well.....it is on a piece of wood that i got from outside. I baked it at 250 for 2 hours AFTER I cleaned it for 2 days. I guess its mold.
 
Yes, you're probably right. You could either take it out, which would suck after you've done some work to get it in there, or just keep cleaning it off -- eventually, it'll stop. Keep an eye on Ammonia and Nitrite levels for any spike above zero, and on the Nitrate level -- if it starts rising, and you're still doing the same work you used to do to keep it low, then the wood might be rotting.
 
If you're using polyfill in your filter, it could be that. I had something like that, growing like white cotton candy that took weeks to accumulate enough to grab with the fingers to remove. It ended up being super tiny stands of my polyfill coming out of a HOB and for some reason likes to stick to the wood and no where else.
