I really wouldn't worry about it. Sounds like your doing everything right but leave the same filter pads in. You shouldn't really change those that often because that is where most of your benificial bacteria lives and you could actually be doing more harm than good. If the fish is still acting normal than leave it alone and keep the water really clean and feed him alot.

im sorry i didnt expalain myself. i didnt replace the filters i just ran them under water to rince them off.

If you ran them under tap water, then the chlorine killed all of your beneficial bacteria.

Yes to clean the filter pads you are supposed to wash them off in a bucket of tank water.

oh i had no idea! i guess ive always done it wrong! thanks.

dont worry thats a new one for me 2, it makes alot of sense but i never thought about it while rinisng off the filter media.

just keep an eye on the fish is my advice, most natives are very hardy and do very well with little bumbs and cuts. ive caught bass before that had half its head ripped off, proably from one of the eagles or ospreys that fish the same place as me.

he seems ok just a few scrapes and cuts. that does make a lot of sense cleaning the media in a bucket of tank water.

I just got home and found another sore on my crappie. He was never cut where the sore appeared and it looks just like the one on his back, only this one is on his stomach. They look white and swelled up and just appeared out of nowhere. Does anyone have any idea what this could be??

what do you guys think the max. salt i should treat the crappie w/ per gal. is? whatever he has or whatever happened to him i want to fix. any help would be great.

This kinda sounds like amonia burn or heater burn. Get a gaurd for your heater and keep up your water changes. Also a pic would be nice.

Chad

ill try but he is aways in the back of the tank. maybe ill have it up monday. what would i do if was the amonia problem?
