i know that the white stringy feces my blue acara has been having are an internal parasite. but what type? how do i go about treating it? i have the fish isolated from the big tank in a 10 gallon tank with clean water and a sponge filter. what else can i do to help him?

Does it eat well at all?
How long has the issue been ongoing?
What do you normally feed it?
How long have you kept this fish?
Water parameters?
Any other symptoms?

Usually, white stringy poop is caused by many factors including stress, internal parasites and even bacterial infections. If your fish is not eating at all, most likely, the fish may be harboring parasites. White stringy poop could also be intestine mucous discharge. It's hard to say what is really affecting it unless it shows other symptoms.

Do you have access to metronidazole, praziquantel and flubendazole/fenbendazole/levamisole hydrochloride? Don't treat yet. I just want to make sure you have access to these anthelmintics in case you need them.

what i dont have i have access to through my father, he's been breeding forever. i do have the metronidazole. not sure about the others. are there any negative affects if you medicate the fish without being sure of the cause of the white feces?? thanks for the help. also, the answers to your questions in order:he has not eaten well for about two weeks, not at all for the past 2 days actually. the problem began about two weeks ago. i normally feed all of my fish 4 times a week, a mix of hikari pellets, shrimp, a gelatine food my father made with sirloin and shrimp in it, and the ocasional feeders.i have had this fish for about a year but purchased him at about 6". 150 gallon tank, 81 degree water, ph 6.8, very well lit, filtered, and airated. i keep him with a jack dempsey, flowerhorn, a large mouth, and a blue channel catfish. no other symptoms but my father told me to look out for swelling. says when you see that its usually to late. well thankyou for any further input.

Whether the tummy is dangerously hollow, I'd give metro a shot since it's one of the mildest treatments. Make sure you use Flagyl and not generic metro since Flagyl is more effective. Dosage is 250mg per 20g or for foods, it's 250mg per 25g of foods. I'd combine the metro in gelatin foods if the fish can eat otherwise treat the water where it is instead.

I think I currently have the same problem. I have been talking to you in another topic lupin as well. I think I will take my flower horn out of the main tank and put him in a 20g long.

His symptoms are white/clear stringy poop, very very poor appetite, mild case of fin rot and fins base are red.

What would you suggest best for treating this guy in the 20g?

Your FH seems to have one issue after another. Didn't this same fish deal with ich before?

Add garlic juice on its food and try to dose metronidazole/Flagyl at 250mg per 20g of water. I have to recommend doing it waterborne especially as your fish is not eating well at all otherwise I would have suggested to combine 250mg per 25g of foods.

Keep the salt treatment to avoid further fraying of the fins. What are water parameters so far?

Parameters are perfect.

And yes he was dealing with ich. Where can I get this flagyl?

Im am going to be treating him in a 20 g. Should I continue to add salt as well as flagyl
