Ok I recently purchased two Red Festae from my LFS. I have them in a quarantine tank right now. The male seem fine and is eating but the female is not doing so good. Her left eye seem to protrude from her body farther than her right eye and she is covered in a white filmy looking layer. To make it worse she is not eating. We did a 50% water change and there is no change in her health. They are not fighting at all. I really do not want to lose her. If anyone has any advice please help!

Pics will help, how long have you had her? What size are they? What size tank? And hides plants ect? my guess is she is stressed and she is losing her slime coat, there are meds that can replace this and also reduce stress, i also add it when i introduce fish or do water changes cant remember the name of the 1 i use sorry.

Google fishpharmacy.com you'll find your answers there. You can even call the fish Dr if you can't find what your looking for

i dont get it. is this a joke?

No its not a joke, but I mis-labeled it lol the actual website is fishy farmacy, sorry. And its an actual website where you can diagnose almost any illness and it will tell you what meds to use and how to use them. It also has a 1-800# so you can actually talk to someone if you can't find what your looking for there. I've uses it a couple times.

The white film sounds like it is columnarius which is a bacterial issue. Ive personally had a few festae get it. Unfortunatly meds are exspensive and ive only had a very slim chance of recovery. Every time one of mine was eating at that point it was a gonner. Sorry for the downer news. Hopefully im super wrong!

i have lost 6 fish in the past 2 weeks from this crap and still have 2 with it and im just now turning to meds because upping temp and adding salt just isnt working.

Sounds like it could be columnaris to me as well. I've found kanamyacin to be very effective in treating it. Also, reduce the heat in the tank to around 75 F. Can you get pictures?

Upping the temp with bacterial infections (especially columnaris) usually makes it worse. The bacteria grow and multiply faster.

The female Festae is still the only one with the problem. She also seems to have pop eye. We treated with clout and it seemed to work for the male. Should we go ahead and take him out of the quarantine tank or leave him in there until she is also better? Here are some pics of her today.
