White flakes in aquarium? Need help identifying

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
So I’ve had this pool/pond for about 2 months and about a week ago these “heavier flakes” started appearing. They sink right to the bottom. It appears they come out of my filter(55 gallon drum with lots of sponges) but not positive. I had a couple fish die since it started coming around. It’s a freshwater pool with with 45 mil pond liner sitting at 77°F

S SageTheKeeper , I have never seen that type of crud build up on a heater in a month's time.

Maybe check out your home water heater manual for instructions on how to drain off sediment, the instructions may vary depending on whether it's electric or gas and follow the steps for shutting off cold water at the inlet and opening a hot water faucet to allow air into the water heater.

It's been awhile since I've done the above procedure since I switched over to a tankless heater for my house.

Yeah I’m not sure how tf it built up so fast. It was brand new when I put it in. Water heater is also only 4 months old. Now I do get a lot of white build up on my glass of other tanks but none of the heaters have ever looked like that. And I have another heater in that pool with no buildup either.
