I just changed the filter floss in the tank and then 4 days later, there is white foam on the tank's edge? What's the cause of it? My tank has never gotten it before the floss change. i did add some aquarium salt in my tank. Could the foam be caused by the salt? I do feed my fish salmon which is full of oil. I doubt it's from the food because i've never experience this before. Other than this, the water is pristine. It the foamy visual at the top that's bothering me.

Any experiences? How can i get rid of it? After a WC, the foam will reappear. thanks.

Can we have a picture? Foam can be caused by loads of things. The waterfalls from the nile into lakes create mass amounts of foam simply because of the amount of oxygen in the water

Oily food will do it a bit, are u medicating at all? Only time I've had foam in a tank was when treating with melafix/pima fix but I'm sure ud notice the smell and figure that one out quick. I'd look for an imbalance somewhere maybe leftover food rotting or a dead fish somewhere.

no meds. Tank doesn't smell like anything died. water is very clean. Just changed the filter floss a few days ago.

Dumb question but detergents or solvents in the floss? If your water seems "normal" it isn't excess proteins causing it and I'd b more nervous it was something else, most likely foreign. My nano tank was a foamy mess of death one time my GF decided to gas our bedroom with a can of smelly spray

no. It's aquarium filter floss so i'm guess it's safe for fish. lol

But...The package said to rinse and I barely rinsed it. nothing bad. Just white fluff that looks like giant pieces of cotton balls.

water change man,,,

I heard that the foam can be caused by too much protein, so you may need protein skimmers to get rid of excess protein. Water change is probably a good idea too.
