white fur on mopani wood in aquarium

granted the piece i have is only small but it went over 2 days its completly gone now wood looks so much better without it.
 
Boiling it and/or pressure washing it prevents it from forming at all.

well i boiled it for 4 days to get the tannic acid out and then it soaked for a further 2 days
 
lol good post. i was about to just dump some wood in my tank but im glad i read. lol tanks guys
 
i bought some wood from petsmart that was in the aquarium aisle. I soaked it for a day and popped it in. I woke up to the same thing, except my plecos were sucking on the fur mucus. I called petsmart and they said the wood was mislabled and only meant for terraniums. Not sure of the type though. But there was fuzz all over this thing.
