Ever since I setup my 220 gallon tank about 7 months ago I have been struggling with a reoccurring white fuzz on my fish and hoses . I never ran into this issue in my previous tank, so I'm not too sure what has changed. I tried treating the tank with fungal medicine in the past, which didnt seem to help much and the resulting recycling of the tank seemed to do more harm than it helped. The only things that seemed to help are keeping my tank at 85 degrees, any time I drop it below that I see a reoccurrence, and replacing the hoses from the pumps to the bulkheads which build up a white film or fungus.

The tank has a 50 to 60 gallon sump with bioballs, sponge filters and a bag of carbon and two pumps each pumping up to two spray nozzles. The gravel is pool filter sand. I'm just super frustrated and am tired of losing good fish. I will post water parameters when I get a chance, but any advice on what to change would be Greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Listing the parameters will be key to analyzing the issue. I would also suggest list the species of fish you have in the 220.

Just set up a 90g and having trouble with the ammonia is the a fast and easy way to lower it or to get it back down to 0

Large water change is the fastest way. You could run down to the fish store and get ammonia chips or zeolite which will bond with the ammonia.

Here are the current water parameters after I changed out the hoses and deep cleaned the sump about a week ago.
Ammonia = 0
Nitrite = 0
Nitrate = 20 ppm
PH- 6.2

The fish in my tank currently are: 1 arowana, 6 silver dollars, 1 pike, 1 red severum, and 1 green severum.

I am still experiencing the same white fuzz problem. I have been doing a 40 percent water change at least once a week, but still no significant improvement. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Tbh you may have to treat the aquarium with a fungal medication. Hopefully someone with a better solution will reply.

Thanks for responding. I have tried a fungal medication but it didn't really help and it cost a bunch of money to treat a tank this big. I would do it again if I thought for sure it would work but not too convinced although the white fuzz looks fungal to me.

Try adding salt and replacing the carbon something might be leeching back into the water?

Thanks. I've been adding salt, but I will definitely replace the carbon because it is pretty old. Should I just add new carbon or is there another chemical I should add as well?

Would keep the carbon out and add seachem Purigen to make sure ur water is clean. Would add api fungus cure to the tank.

Is ur pH normally that low? What’s the pH out of ur tap? Low pH can cause eye issues.

Can u get some up close pics of the areas affected.
