If your using an API test kit be sure you shake the second bottle of the nitrate reagent for atleast 30 seconds (i shake vigorously for a minute usualy) then put the drops in your test sample and then be sure to shake the sample for another minute at least.



This is the only thing that i can think of that will give you a result of 0 nitrate (and since API test kits are used so often improper testing(especialy for nitrate) is quite common).


If your not using an API test kit then it's obvious to me that your doing something wrong as far as testing goes but what that is i couldn't tell you.

your excactly right. i never shook it!!! wow, i cant believe that i missed that. oh well, everything is at 0 and my nitrates are at 20. i did do a heavy feeding yesterday. i notice theres more crap on the bottom than normal. so tomorrow ill do another w/c
